Where to Drink with Your Pooch in the Holiday Spirit

What are the two things Austin loves most? Drinking and dogs, obviously. Our Pawsidents, Penny and Knuckles, took the time to explore some of the most dog friendly breweries, distilleries and watering holes with wonderful holiday drink specials. It was a ruff adventure but they navigated it graciously. Austin is full of so many delicious watering holes but these were the ones they loved the most.

Austin Eastciders

  • Drink: Spiced Cider

  • Made with a mixture of sweet and zesty spices including cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves, this cider is slightly spicy with a smooth and sweet finish.

  • Taste: Medium bodied, floral, crispy, zesty, subtle and spicy bite upfront

  • Aroma: Cinnamon, herbal

Austin Eastciders is a staple for dog loving drinkers. Dogs can be indoors or outdoors. They host a ton of dog friendly events and if you ever want a beautiful backdrop for a photo of your dogs , this is the place. Not to mention their cider is delicious.

Iron Wolf Ranch Distillery

  • Drinks: Hot Buttered Rum & Hot Toddy

  • The hot buttered rum is made with the owner’s grandmother’s recipe. IT IS SO GOOD. With these two classics, you really can’t go wrong. Noteworthy holiday drink, their Iron Hot whiskey. Give us the cinnamon all day, every day!

Iron Wolf is so incredibly dog friendly we couldn’t believe it. The employees gave all the pets, all the love and all the attention. They even have a beautiful dog “wolf” of their own. It’s a bit of a drive from central Austin but so incredibly worth it.

Treaty Oak

  • Drinks: Hypnotize – Red handed, angostura bitters, lemon juice, house-made orgeat, house-made maraschino liqueur.

  • O.P.P. – Waterloo antique, house-made amaro, house vermouth served over progressive cinnamon, anise, and juniper ice cube.

These cocktails are as delicious as they are pretty. Another wonderfully dog friendly place where dogs are allowed outdoors as well as selected indoor areas. So much to do for the whole family here. Definitely worth your time over the holidays!

Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden

  • Drinks: Seasonal Hot Cocoa - An adult twist to the holiday favorite, hot cocoa. Add a booze of your choice to this chocolaty delight.

  • Holiday Cocktail Topper - For a limited time, add this holiday topper to any cocktail or coffee of your choosing.

Talk about a good time! This place has dogs, drinks, and java all in one place! Not to mention food trucks. Need we say more? Four paws up for this spacious, dog friendly patio!

Lazarus Brewing Co.

  • Drinks: Achilles Heel - dry stout, served on Nitro and loaded with roasted chocolate and hints of biscuit.

  • Jolted Phoenix - infused with 18 lbs of house roasted Costa Rican coffee. Immensely drinkable with notes of toasted nuts, caramel and dark chocolate, 4.8% ABV.

  • Despereaux French Saison - Saisons were first brewed for thirsty farmhands toiling in the rural French countryside. Pale and crisp, with spicy undertones - we hop ours with Melon & Blanc for layers of honeydew, peaches, and mango. Here’s to unlikely heroes in unexpected places (and a really great book about a mouse that mattered).

  • Dragon’s Hoard –  No Description but dang it was scrumptious!

  • Signs and Wonders – Rich layers of molasses and cacao combined with a biscuity roastiness and just the right amount of alcohol for chilly winter days. Think of it as 310 gallons of “manna from heaven”, just waiting to fill your glass with hope and cheer!

  • Solomon’s Fancy –  Solomon had a thing for pomegranates. So do we. As a style, Bière de Garde originates in Northern France, a rustic farmhouse ale for thirsty workers during Fall harvest. We brew ours with Texas malt, French hops, and a bold infusion of fresh pomegranate juice for a rich, passionate, romp in the hay. Just like Solomon's Song.

  • Recently Added Holiday Brew: FIRST NOËL – (not pictured) released 12/1/2018 -  An adventurous Winter Wild Ale carefully crafted from two strains of Brettanomyces, re-fermented with figs. Nicely balanced. Super dry. Tastes like liquid mistletoe.

A Fun place to bring the dogs, eat some tacos and enjoy some delicious brews! Located in the heart of East 6th Street. The atmosphere, scrumptious brews and convenient location make this a top notch location to visit during the holidays with your family and pooch!
